The official position of the Catholic Church regarding Pride Month (LGBTQ+ Pride Month) in June is clear: The Catholic Church does not celebrate and does not officially support Pride Month as it is commonly promoted today (especially when it emphasizes the celebration of sexual acts outside of marriage and gender ideologies).
The Church’s Clear Teaching
The Catholic Church teaches two important truths that must always be held together:
- Every person has infinite dignity.
All men and women, including those who experience same-sex attraction, are created in the image and likeness of God. They deserve to be treated with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Unjust discrimination against any person is always wrong.
- The Church cannot approve certain actions.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (2357), homosexual acts are considered “intrinsically disordered” and contrary to the natural moral law. The Church firmly believes that sexual intimacy is reserved exclusively for marriage between one man and one woman.
Because of this, the Catholic Church does not celebrate or officially support Pride Month when it promotes lifestyles and behaviors that contradict her moral teaching on sexuality and the human person.

June: A Month for the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Interestingly, the Catholic Church has long observed June as the Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This beautiful devotion invites the faithful to meditate on Christ’s infinite love, mercy, and call to holiness. Many bishops and dioceses intentionally use the month of June to deepen this traditional devotion as a positive spiritual response.
A Message of Truth and Love
Being Catholic means following Christ with both charity and truth.
The Church welcomes every person with open arms, but she cannot change her teaching to accommodate cultural trends. True love, according to the Gospel, always includes speaking the truth — even when it is unpopular.
Catholics are encouraged to:
- Treat every person with kindness and respect
- Avoid participating in events that celebrate what the Church considers sinful
- Pray for those who struggle with same-sex attraction
- Offer the mercy and healing found in Jesus Christ
Final Thought
The Sacred Heart of Jesus is big enough to love every single person — but He also calls each one of us to conversion and holiness. That is the heart of the Catholic message in June and every month of the year.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
